The intent of this presentation would be to share a protocol for creating a 5-week cycle of targeted small group intervention for struggling readers in grades 3-5. This intervention is intended to be part of Tier 1 (good first teaching) intervention. In this training participants will receive content instruction in analyzing literacy data and student selection, how to use the instructional strategy of Phrased Text Reading to Build Fluency and Accuracy, tools and resources that are high interest for students, and progress monitoring tools to check for progress.
The LAUSD Division of Adult and Career Education is excited to support K-12 schools by offering increased access to CTE-related programs. This session will focus on dual enrollment opportunities for high school students and a variety of job training options for recent graduates, including LAUSD-specific career pathways, pre-apprenticeship programs, and apprenticeship programs. As an Arts Coordinator, the main emphasize is to support Elementary Music Teachers. My experience in the Arts encompasses over 25 years of educational experience at the Elementary and Secondary levels.
The use of school-wide data chats offers a unique opportunity for students to take ownership of their learning and academic success. When teachers are provided the tools to conduct the chats with uniformity, data-driven conversations can be conducted between student and teacher and student and peers with fidelity, meaning, and insight.
The session, "Accelerating A-G Completion: in alignment with the LAUSD Strategic Plan," aims to improve A-G course completion rates by integrating LAUSD's strategic goals. Participants will explore data-driven strategies, best practices, and collaborative approaches to support student success. The session includes interactive discussions on, fostering equitable access, and leveraging District services and resources. Attendees will leave with actionable plans and resources to effectively support A-G acceleration, ensuring all students are prepared for post-secondary opportunities.
In this session school leaders will increase their knowledge on creating or expanding successful dual enrollment programs and strengthen their collaboration with LACCD to provide students with an opportunity to earn college credit while fulfilling high school requirements. This workshop equips principals with strategies to address chronic absenteeism through collaborative efforts. It emphasizes understanding root causes and utilizing multi-disciplinary teams for Tier 3 interventions. Participants learn to leverage school-level (SART) and district-level (Resource Panel & SARB) approaches tailored to at-promise students. The focus is on intensive case management and fostering partnerships to create a comprehensive support network for students and families, promoting regular attendance. Empowered with knowledge, skills, and resources, principals can lead efforts to improve student outcomes and cultivate a positive school environment.
This session will highlight efforts, successes, and lessons learned as the Gifted/Talented Programs and Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP) teams meaningfully collaborated to address the underrepresentation of Black students in GATE programs, in accordance with the Strategic Plan. Finding meaningful time to provide professional development can be a challenge given teachers' busy schedules. In this session, principals will learn about how to engage teachers in professional learning using a lab day structure between the bells. Maximizing Academic Discourse through Culturally Responsive Pedagogy PD aligns with LAUSD's Strategic Plan for Academic Excellence and Well-being. It aims to improve instruction and student outcomes by fostering inclusive learning environments. This training assists leaders in implementing culturally responsive teaching using CLR Tenets and Gholdy Muhammad’s Cultivating Genius HRL Framework. It highlights the importance of utilizing students' cultural backgrounds to enhance learning environments and bridge opportunity gaps. The interactive sessions leverage MMED’s Trifold and AEMP Participation and Discussion Protocols to demonstrate effective instructional strategies for supporting Multilingual Learners.
As District leaders, we recognize the important role all educators play every day to support our students by creating positive school cultures and developing caring relationships to foster their learning and overall wellbeing. There will still be instances when student’s behavior will escalate. Intervention and reactive strategies will be explored with an emphasis on the adults’ role in responding to escalating behavior. In alignment with Pillar 2, PSLF standard 4, SLF standard 4 and TLF standard 2, this session will provide participants with an easy to use, practical process map to develop and plan and procedure for their school.
The District's Strategic Plan calls for increased engagement and collaboration with elected officials and governmental partners. However, much of this engagement work is lead by Los Angeles Unified's Office of Governmental Relations. With 2024 as an election year, there will increased requests for elected officials who may request to speak at or attend school events, coffee with the principals or other special functions. Come learn about the District's updated guidelines for visits with elected officials and the protocols for informing the Office of Governmental Relations. This will also serve as an opportunity to ask questions to inform additional clarification and resources the District can provide to better support schools and the Regions.
The Joy and Wellness pillar is built on a foundation of safe and healthy environments in which our students can learn, grow, and thrive. To this end, our employees must maintain respectful and meaningful connections with students. When faced with reports of employee misconduct with students, administrators must act swiftly, exercise good judgment, and comply with District policies and legal requirements.

Technology continues to evolve at an accelerated pace, transforming the way students learn, live and what they will need to know in a rapidly developing landscape. Computer Science and its underlying branches is an essential skill that can be introduced, encouraged and fostered throughout the K–12 student experience. There are a wide range of opportunities for schools to provide various options throughout the school day. Pillar 1: Academic Excellence through the intentional focus on LAUSD Priorities: High Quality Instruction, Enriching Experiences, Eliminating Opportunity Gaps, and College and Career Readiness
The purpose of session is to help school leaders understand the role of the Instructional Leadership Team in the implementation of a PDSA cycle. Participants will leave the session with an understanding of how to lead school-wide instructional change "from the middle" by creating space for critical reflection, questioning, dialogue, meaning-making, and decisive action.
School leaders will learn and plan to establish an Instructional Round structure to use with their teacher PLCs, where teachers lead the process from identifying a problem of practice, making recommendations, implementing action steps, and refining practices as the process continues through the year. Fostering a sense of shared responsibility and building the capacity of teachers PLCs to initiate the changes needed to improve instructional practices.
The intent of this presentation would be to share with principals an 8-10 week PDSA Cycle of Improvement that focuses on 3-5 Grade Math Achievement aligned to LAUSD Math Instructional Blocks and Priority Math standards. Using Data Dialogues to Promote Accountablity, Goal Setting, and Reflection: Data dialogues, when done immediately after testing windows close, are an essential way for teachers and instructional leadership teams to thoughtfully and strategically reflect on student progress and their instructional practices. During this session, participants will hear from two elementary school principals who have created a systematic approach to putting data at the center in order to build a culture of accountability and promote coherence and collaboration. The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) Cycle is an effective method for monitoring student progress toward mastering mathematics standards. In this session, we will focus on grade 11 students and share concrete strategies that can be implemented to monitor student learning. The fundamental question guiding this work is simple yet crucial: Are the students learning, and what actions do we take if they are not? This session will provide principals with a clear vision to support math teachers in their journey to help all students succeed in mathematics.
