This breakout session will examine the purpose of small group instruction in secondary classrooms and consider the challenges and success factors in creating sustainable, meaningful systems of targeted instruction. The session aligns with LAUSD’s Strategic Plan pillars of Academic Excellence and Joy and Wellness, and supports SLF elements 2.3 (Instructional Planning), 3.2 (Equitable Access to Learning), and 3.3 (Progress Monitoring and Intervention). It also aligns with TLF elements 3c2 (Purposeful Instructional Groups), 3d3 (Adjustment of Instruction in Response to Evidence), and 3b2 (Discussion Techniques and Student Participation), which emphasize differentiated instruction and equitable access to rigorous learning opportunities.
